Open Mic Poetry & Spoken Word
Fen Speak is Ely's long-running regular poetry, spoken word and storytelling open mic night (now in its 12th year) where local writers come together to share their work in a friendly environment.
As part of Ely Arts Festival, there is a guest slot from Sue Burge.
Sue is an established poet, writer, and tutor based on the North Norfolk coast. With over twenty years of experience teaching literature, film, and creative writing in the UK and abroad, she now works as a freelance tutor and mentor, supporting writers at every stage of their journey. She works for a wide range of organisations, most recently The Poetry School and Mslexia Salon.
Sue’s poetry has been widely published and performed, with collections including In the Kingdom of Shadows, The Saltwater Diaries, Confetti Dancers, The Artificial Parisienne, and her latest, watch it slowly fade. Alongside her publications, she offers inspiring courses, one-to-one mentoring, and creative projects that connect writers with new ideas, places, and communities.
Sign up on the night for a 2-3min open mic slot to read poetry or prose, or just listen, a warm welcome awaits you. Free entry, all welcome. Doors open 7.00PM for 7.30PM start, bring your own refreshments. Donations gratefully accepted.
