Spirit of the Fens

The Spirit of the Fens is a performance that brings communities together both live and virtually. Join us to celebrate the creativity that has continued to blossom throughout the COVID-19 pandemic across Ely and the surrounding villages.

Programme:

  • "Spirit of the Fens" performed by 250 local children and community members (on screens)

  • Somewhere Over the Rainbow - 3’ (accompanied by lockdown pictures of Ely and the surrounding area sent in from various local Facebook groups)

  • Lantivet Duo Set 1 (live musicians)

  • Sing Choirs Virtual Pieces (A newly written piece about lockdown and Stars from Les Mis)

  • Quilt Reveal

  • Ely Cathedral Girl Choristers Piece (virtual piece from lockdown)

  • Lantivet Duo 2 (live musicians including Drone Footage). Featuring a piece by Chris Leedham to accompany drone footage.

  • "The Dance WE Made: Ely" mini film

  • Drone Footage Piece by David Sims

  • Sing by Gary Barlow performed by 250 local children and community members (on screens)

Featuring live music to accompany dramatic drone footage of Ely Cathedral and the fens and virtual 'lockdown' projects from local choirs, schools and artists. The celebration will conclude with a performance of 'The Spirit of the Fens' a vocal work by the composer Nils Greenhow featuring local schools and other community groups.

The performance will also include the unveiling of a new community art project 'Fen Stitch Together: Do More Of What Makes You Happy Quilt'.
